About Amharic Class
Learn Amharic — from the Fidel script to real conversation.
Amharic Class is a free-to-start app for learning Amharic, the working language of Ethiopia and the mother tongue of tens of millions of people. Whether you want to talk with family, travel, or read the script, you can start at the very beginning: sounds first, then the Fidel alphabet, then words and sentences you will actually use.
Every lesson is short, in order, and builds on the last. Words come with the Amharic script, an easy romanized spelling and a pronunciation guide, so you can say what you read — and hear it spoken.
The Fidel alphabet
Amharic is written in Fidel (Ge'ez script), where each character is a consonant-and-vowel sound. Learn to recognise the characters and practise drawing them by hand.
